Sometimes You Gotta Hide Ugly…

It is a fact that sometimes you have to try your very best to hide ugly. We just want to share our ugly with everyone around us at times.  I was thinking about how I act and I did think about a few of the people that I am surrounded with.  We have become so about having rights that we just let whatever come out of our mouths, our facial expressions and so on.  We feel we have the right to say what is on our mind.  We feel like if someone does us wrong we have the right to express ourselves.   Sometimes we need to quite simply,  be quiet.

I am appalled at what is being taught to our next generation.  Look out for yourself, if someone makes you mad get even!  Watch a kids ball game or cheer competition.  You will see lots of ugly all over the place.  We are supposed to be peacemakers.  We are supposed to be Jesus to those around us.  What message are we sending?   Trust me, people will frustrate, annoy and aggravate you every single day.  Watch how you react.  Highly emotional people have a very hard time hiding how they feel.  I have found that you could cover their whole body with a sheet and you would still know.  I understand that some of those things are personality traits that we carry.  We need to be careful though not to leave our dirty laundry and stinky personalities out for everyone to experience.

I know the phrase What Would Jesus Do has been used over and over again but truly, “what would Jesus do”?  I feel it quite safe to say he did not attack with his words, he did not roll his eyes and he did not huff and puff and stomp off when he did not get what he wanted. Trust me I understand that we learn these wonderful traits from a very young age, the problem is many of us have not outgrown them.  Now we have a generation of 40’s, 50’s and 60’s that still exhibit this kind of behavior.  Take a look at facebook posts and tell me you can’t see how people let they’re ugly hang out and how they act when they don’t get their way.   All you need is an election year to see how people act.

We really have an internal battle sometimes that rages in us making it hard to hide the ugly inside.  It so easily creeps out if we are not in God’s word and  more importantly applying it (which is the big key, read all you want without application you are wasting your time!) I know for myself I can read God’s word and have a bad attitude, when that happens I am in a place where no change transpires,  then we let our hearts grow weary and in turn it starts taking on an ugly appearance.  What is in the heart comes out of the mouth and eyes and is shown in body stance!

God is the only one that can transform the ugly, however, we have to have self-control and he expects us to do our part.  There is proven fact though that when a person fixes themselves up they feel better not only physically but emotionally.  If you live in a dumpy old house, it is amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do and when all you have is a wall full of urinals…put a pretty flower pot in them, it is surprising how much better they look! It is guaranteed to make you smile! Proverbs 23:23 says  Learn the truth and never reject it.  Get wisdom, self-controland understanding.  We learn to be Christ-like by learning His truth from His word.  Hiding the ugly takes daily self-control.   I think the best way to get rid of the ugly is prayer, without God’s help we will never combat the ugly.  Grace and peace as you fight the ugly that wants to come out in your life.

Until Next Time…
