It’s A Great Life, If You Don’t Weaken

My grandmother used to say those words all the time.  I have found myself using many of the little phrases she used to say and thinking about them.  Think about it for a minute, “It’s a great life if you don’t weaken”.  So it is not  great life if you do weaken? My grandmother was one of the most amazing ladies I ever knew and full of wisdom.  Not a day goes by that I don’t remember something she told me or taught me.  I think she was onto something with her words of advice here too.  She knew that in order to have a great life you have to stay strong, but we cannot do that in our own power.  Life throws some pretty crazy stuff our way at times.

I have been told as a young child flying with my parents, there was a kid screaming and crying.  Having  heard enough my three-year-old self self-yelled this, “Stop this plane and let that kid off!”  Sometimes that is how I have felt with life, stop this life and let me off or sometimes someone else!  People say God does not give you more then you can handle that is simply not true.  He does not give us more than He can handle.  It doesn’t matter what is happening in our lives.  If we are in the throws of taking care of a newborn baby, handling changes in our marriages, trying to raise teenagers without completely losing our mind or hearing a bad report from a doctor.  All those things can drive us as humans to a place where we want to throw our hands up and retreat.  Where we are weak He is strong.

My grandmother knew that she had to read the word, stay plugged into a church, have a community with other Christians and to serve to stay strong.  Jeremiah 31:25 says “I will give rest and strength to those who are weak and tired.”  I know there are many days that I feel weak and tired.  I think can I handle one more thing?  I see in the eyes of moms that have not slept well for weeks either due to a newborn, a sick child, a teenager or maybe even a grown child, they are filled with complete exhaustion.  We often feel weak and helpless to help those around us, our job is to let God take care of it.  The word weak means liable to break or give way under pressure; easily damaged.  Do you feel sometimes like you are liable to break?   In Matthew 11:28 Jesus says “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads and I will give you rest.  Jesus wants to take your load.  I am sure you can think of a time you were trying to carry something really heavy when someone came along and took it from you.  I tend to hate to make multiple trips to my car for things so I carry too much.  When my husband or kids come and grab something out of my arms, what a relief!  When that burden was lifted you probably let out a sigh . That is what God wants for us.

Don’t get clouded by a few troubles, it is a great life.  Look around at all God has given you and just imagine all that he has for you.  Count your blessings.  It is a great life, even when we do weaken.  So hang in there.  God knows all you are going through and He is with you. He will never give you more than He can handle, and that is a promise!

Until Next Time…
